Join local artist Justin Lopez for a three-session mural class that brings art, community, and environmental education together. Students will work collaboratively to create a large-scale public mural on the seawall in front of the convention center (5600 Seawall Blvd). Along the way, they’ll learn from additional local artists and local lifeguards, exploring the mural-making process, water safety, and the environmental impact our community has on Galveston’s coastal environment.
The finished mural will give students the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to Galveston while building creativity, civic responsibility, and community pride.
This project is sponsored by TCA grant funding and made possible by partnership with the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston.

Meet Justin Lopez, a mural artist known for his vibrant and detailed works that seamlessly blend the landscapes and wildlife of the Gulf Coast. Growing up in Galveston, Justin was immersed in the rich and diverse ecology of the region, drawn to the vivid colors and intricate patterns of its native plants and animals.
His deep appreciation for the natural world quickly became the foundation of his artistic style.
After years of experimenting with aerosol spray paint, Justin developed a unique and recognizable approach—one that transforms public spaces into dynamic murals celebrating the beauty of the coast. His work not only enhances its surroundings but also inspires and uplifts the communities it inhabits.
A firm believer in the transformative power of public art, Justin understands the importance of history and culture in shaping artistic expression. While his work is rooted in the natural world, he also strives to reflect the identity and spirit of the communities he paints for. Humble and grateful for the opportunities his art has provided, he remains committed to capturing the essence of his home, ensuring its beauty and cultural heritage are preserved through art for generations to come.
