Urban Sketching

Saturdays from 12:00-2:00 PM

Join the Urban Sketching movement! Urban Sketchers draw the world around them, and there is always something beautiful to draw in historic downtown Galveston. We'll begin each day in the studio for drawing instruction before setting out to draw in the heart of Downtown Galveston.
What to Expect:
-Get a crash course in perspective drawing, sketching people, architecture, and essential drawing techniques for urban sketching.
-Learn tips to build your urban sketching on-the-go kit, and best practices for drawing in public.
-For beginner to intermediate students.
-Resources and drawing homework to help develop your skills after our time together.

All materials and supplies for this class are included with registration.


POLICIES

  • ENROLLMENT DEADLINE:  June 01, 2024

    Late enrollment may be accepted, however some materials may not be ready at first class.

  • Missed classes will not be refunded.

  • Classes are not recorded for virtual students. Live participation is necessary.

  • In the rare event of cancellation due to unavoidable circumstances, a reasonable effort will be made to schedule a make-up class session on an alternate date, or the class fee (less any classes already held) will be credited to the customer’s account.

  • Group communications/announcements are conducted by email to the address entered at registration. Individual communications may be handled by phone/text.


SCHOLARSHIPS
Teachers, counsellors, etc. may nominate a student with whom they are professionally acquainted for a partial scholarship if they can attest to the the student’s interest in the subject and financial need. The student’s parent/legal guardian will be notified and given further instructions. You may not nominate your own child, dependent, or other close relation.

DISCOUNTS
GAC Members enjoy 20% off of tuition. You must sign in with the email associated with your membership account to receive the discount. Full-time students, teachers/professors, and parents who homeschool can join at the Student/Educator level for just $30/year.

For liability reasons, please do not register a student who is a minor unless you are their parent or legal guardian.

 
 

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Jessica Antonelli is a dynamic force at the intersection of art, activism, and community engagement. Jessica has been helping people make breakthroughs in drawing and painting for over 10 years in her art business, and serves as the dedicated Director of Operations for La Izquierda Fest, a 501c3 non-profit. 

After receiving her Masters in art education, she taught all ages in Texas public schools for 5 years, and won Teacher of the Year in 2013 for Galveston ISD. When adventured called, she listened. Jessica moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where she formed Antonelli Art School, and still teaches the most popular beginner drawing classes in town each February. Jessica now lives on the island, where she volunteers with Seeding Galveston and Galveston Art in Action when she’s not painting or offering art workshops.
