Matt Messinger
Curio

Curio features found object assemblages and mixed media paintings by artist Matt Messinger. Known for work that incorporates symbolic imagery and patterns with everyday objects, Messinger provides viewers a unique glimpse into his diverse interests and collections. The work is influenced by his background in graphic design and his eye for objects that provoke nostalgia, subtle humor, and mystery. Curio delves into explorations of mythological creatures and pictographs juxtaposed with a veritable cabinet of curiosities pulled from the artist’s collection. Each piece in the Curio represents a part of a dedicated collector's stash, combining various elements and artifacts intended to convey the child-like wonder of their collector.

Matt Messinger is an artist based in Houston, TX. He studied graphic design at the Art Institute of Houston and has had an active studio practice over the past 20 years. His work has been exhibited widely throughout Houston, including exhibitions in Houston at Foltz Gallery, Reeves Fine Art, Devin Borden Gallery, Lawndale Art Center, and Deborah Colton Gallery.  Messigner’s work can also be seen at his studio at Hardy & Nance Studios in Houston’s Downtown Art Warehouse District.
