Grab your sketchbook, because in this class we’re going to fill those pages up! Starting with this all-important artists’ tool, students will practice, experiment, fail, try again, push through difficulty, surprise themselves, and ultimately grow as artists. Each week students will complete drawing exercises using graphite, charcoal, ink, pastels, and/or paint, honing their observation skills using traditional methods until they are so comfortable they can easily draw anything. Whether they are interested in realism or any other style of drawing, they will improve using methods that will teach them how to execute their own ideas with confidence.

THIS CLASS includes STUDIO SESSION!

Students will meet weekly during open studio sessions. Students will improve much faster when they complete the assigned exercises. Think of it like a music class; you wouldn’t expect to make progress if you never practiced your instrument between classes, right? Drawing is no different!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Elizabeth Punches is a figurative painter based in Galveston, Texas, where she lives downtown with her two dogs in a live/workspace operated by ArtSpace. Her background is in traditional oil painting and she makes her living on private and public commissions. Elizabeth’s favorite part of teaching is helping young artists have those “ah-ha!” breakthrough moments. Her street-level studio on the east side of 23rd St. next to Old Moon Deli is open to visitors most days during business hours when she isn’t teaching.
