GAC Volunteers are part of a fun team, serving , learning, and earning perks like discounts and free classes.

Special Events

Each year, GAC hosts eight art exhibition openings during ArtWalk, a number of parties and fundraiser events.   Help prepare materials, set up, greet guests, manage crowds, serve refreshments, and clean up to ensure everyone has a great time. Volunteers also help GAC staff and teachers host art activities and information booths at local festivals, trade shows, and community functions such as Dickens on the Strand, The Grand Kids Festival, and Mardi Gras, to name just a few. Lend a hand and gain free admission to the event!

SIGN UP FOR UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS

Office Team

Members of our Office team come in once a week or so to help us catch up on general administrative work such as data entry, answering the phone and helping with mailings. Ideal for retirees with administrative experience, or people between jobs wanting to stay sharp and build their resume. The tasks vary from week to week. For example, you might enter emails from our guest book to our mailing list or update different online calendars with our upcoming events.

Street Team

Members of the Street Team will help out once or twice a month by distributing brochures, flyers, and generally spreading the word around town about the great things going on at GAC.

Docents

Docents are volunteer educators who guide visitors through Galveston Arts Center’s exhibitions. They facilitate dialogue that helps visitors find connections between themselves and a wide variety of concepts and themes in contemporary art.

No visual arts background is necessary, however, you should appreciate contemporary art and believe in GAC’s Mission.  Docents are required to attend an orientation for each exhibit–held the Thursday before the opening reception, or the artists’ talk at the reception (which is during ArtWalk.)

Volunteering as a docent is a great way to get to know current exhibiting artists and their work, and to meet and nurture lovers of contemporary art.

Saturdays from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 2:00 – 5:00PM
