Seth Damm
Dimensions Unknown

Dimensions Unknown continues Seth Damm’s exploration of tension and fluidity using rope as his primary medium. Defying the typical restrained and tethered interpretations of the material, Damm explores its metaphorical qualities. Made from individual fibers twisted together, the rope becomes strong, highlighting how when individuals come together, they can create greater potential. His installation examines the interplay between line and space, transforming two-dimensional forms into an immersive piece that responds to the gallery walls. Drawing from techniques used in creating wearable design concepts, this installation expands into a larger scale, occupying the space independently while still implying the human form.

New Orleans-based artist Seth Damm has created hand-dyed rope designs for over 12 years under the name Neon Zinn. His wearable rope jewelry can be described as personal adornments, everyday armor, fashion statements, and soft wearable sculptures. His works have been featured in exhibitions at the Homo Faber Craft Biennale, Venice, Italy; Australian Tapestry Workshop, Melbourne, Australia; Vetri Gallery, Seattle, WA; BACHT, Vienna, Austria; and WAAS Gallery, Dallas, TX. His works has also made appearances in mainstream media including the Netflix series Grace and Frankie and Amazon Prime’s I Love Dick, as well as the music video for Cold Cold Cold by Cage the Elephant. Damm was featured in the book The Craft Companion published by Thames and Hudson (2016), along with numerous magazines including Avenue Magazine, Architectural Digest Italy/Spain/Germany, Lost in Jewellery Magazine, Downbeat Magazine, Bust Magazine, and Elle Magazine South Africa. His designs have adorned and are collected by numerous cultural icons including Esperanza Spalding, Erykah Badu, Solange Knowles, Tina Knowles, Big Freedia, and Gabriel Garcia-Montaño.
