This class will introduce you to the benefits of thrifting and provide practical tools and guidelines for sourcing furniture, décor, and accessories with confidence. Participants will learn strategies for identifying quality pieces, measuring and planning for their spaces, and making the most of local shops. The course combines classroom learning with a hands-on shopping experience to inspire creativity and sustainable choices 

CLASS FORMAT

This event is conducted in Galveston Arts Center’s studio classroom located on the second floor of GAC. This workshop will also include time spent visiting and shopping at local thrift stores where they can practice the skills they learned in real time.


POLICIES

  • ENROLLMENT DEADLINE:  Oct 17, 2025
    Late enrollment may be accepted, however some materials may not be ready at first class.

  • NO REFUNDS on registrantion fees.

  • In the rare event of cancellation due to unavoidable circumstances, a reasonable effort will be made to schedule a make-up class session on an alternate date, or the class fee (less any classes already held) will be credited to the customer’s account.

  • Group communications/announcements are conducted by email to the address entered at registration. Individual communications may be handled by phone/text.

GAC Members enjoy 20% off of tuition. You must sign in with the email associated with your membership account to receive the discount. Full-time students, teachers/professors, and parents who homeschool can join at the Student/Educator level for just $30/year.

For liability reasons, please do not register a student who is a minor unless you are their parent or legal guardian.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR LEARNERS
Teachers, counsellors, community leader etc. may nominate a student with whom they are professionally acquainted for a scholarship if they can attest to the the student’s interest in the subject and financial need. The student’s parent/legal guardian will be notified and given further instructions. You may not nominate your own child, dependent, or other close relation.

 
 

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Asthon Horejs is originally from New Orleans then onto Twin Falls, ID ~ always visiting The South and strengthening those roots whenever she could. Then setting out for those college days in Ashland, OR while she taught snowboarding and was a lifty at Mt Ashland for a few years. After discovering she wanted to be challenged with her creativity she earned a degree in Interior Design at The Art Institute of Portland. With such a well rounded and diverse background AshtonForDesign is able to approach each project with the care and attention it deserves. 

Driven by a passion to give her clients a better environment, Ashton adapts her expertise to all types of projects both residential and commercial. She has a strong focus on connecting with the local community and collaborating on projects both large and small. Whether the job calls for custom design, popular design, or a balance of the two, she knows what to do. Her abilities range from research, concept, design development, construction drawings, procurement, and administration, to install. She believes interior design improves and elevates a space while catering to the needs of the end-user. Ashton blends her design knowledge and originality with the style preferences of her clients.
