Isela Aguirre
Between Surface and Memory
Isela Aquirre’s work maps her daily observations as a way to find meaning in the world around her. Her exhibition, Between Surface and Memory, brings together photography and textiles to create an immersive environment that celebrates nature’s ability to offer an escape from everyday life. Her work includes collages made from digital photographs that capture movement, along with fabric banners that explore light, shadow, and color. Aquirre describes her work as “finding wonder in the quiet resilience and courage of small things.”
Isela Aguirre is a multi-disciplinary artist born and raised in Houston, TX. Her work has been featured in recent exhibitions in Houston at Jardin, Ruth Street Projects, Elgin Street Studios, Blaffer Museum, Basket Books and Art, Lawndale Art Center, and Art League Houston, as well as exhibitions at Presa House in San Antonio, and Big Medium in Austin. She received her BFA in Photography and Digital Media and MFA in Painting from the University of Houston.
