About Our Instructors:
Nellie Cornett is a local artist, musician and entrepreneur with 20 years’ experience working with school-aged kids, teaching workshops and camps in art, health & fitness, and gardening. With a major in studio arts from the University of Houston, she has firmly rooted herself in the Galveston arts community since moving to the island and falling in love with its culture over 8 years ago. In 2016, she created the Galveston Synergist Project, which curates compilations of collaborative, multi-media artistic projects in Galveston, Texas through musical albums, art zines, and performances. She is also the art teacher at Satori school in downtown Galveston.
Pat Johnson is an award-winning clay artist. For the past 40 years, she has experimented with clay, wax and glaze techniques, and has been a teacher for many of them. She blends skill with humor to create sculptures that are thought provoking at sometimes puzzling. Her work can be seen in permanent collections throughout Texas, and she has had exhibitions at The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and the Galveston Arts Center. Johnson’s figurative work is coil built, slab built or cast. “Creating art helps me clarify what I feel and believe. Be it a social, political statement or a personal one.”
