Houston. It’s Worth It. IKE
August 22–October 4, 2009

Galveston Arts Center is pleased to present a project from the creative team that brought you 2004’s HIWI: Houston. It’s Worth It. Dave Thompson and Randy Twaddle have immortalized 2008’s epic storm in a new edition titled HIWI: IKE. The Book. Working in conjunction with GAC’s curator Clint Willour, photographs from the publication, including many images of Galveston and written reflections will be exhibited as Houston. It’s Worth It. IKE.

In addition, the book, described as, “a roiling reflection of the more communal aspects of the great storm for anyone who got wind whipped that September weekend” will be available for purchase at the Arts Center, with a portion of the proceeds of each book sale benefitting GAC’s reconstruction. “Randy and Dave have been enthusiastic supporters of the Arts Center for many years,” notes Willour. “We are truly honored by their gracious donation and feel this is a most appropriate celebration of the one-year anniversary of the hurricane.”

"After spending the day boarding up the windows, submerging the patio furniture in the pool, and placing anything not nailed down into the garage, our friends invited us over for a barbecue as a distraction from the long evening of waiting. They were serving 'Hurricane Chicken.' I brought a Bundt cake."
